If nothing else, this site shows just how important trust is. We’ve seen case after case where it has been absent and the result is disastrous.

Katharina you are absolutely right relationships are often ruined when issues arise around trust. It feels horrible not to trust someone you love, but it is horrible for the other person too especially if they haven’t done what they are suspected of.

When suspicions like this arise, trust is often shattered whether or not the other person actually did anything wrong because of that nagging little “what if…” You’re right about that. It’s not fair but it exists.

So, “Confused”… it’s been 11 months now. Were you able to work things out, or did you guys end up splitting?

Well put debrajean! If he hasn’t got around to making the relationship more formal in 9 years, I don’t think he could have been that serious about a long term future anyway.

To me, it seems like you may have some control issues. You don’t seem to trust her…after nine yrs? And her ability to enjoy another persons company doesn’t seem to bode well with you. If this girl means so much to you, that you would write a word or two about it in a forum, then after all these years you might want to…in the words of Beyonce’, put a ring on it. Although at this point she might refuse it.

Just from reading it I got the impression that they were living together now but had been ‘going out with’ each other for 9 years. It doesn’t really matter. I think I would find his behaviour suffocating if he was my partner.

thats all about his lack of trust in the woman he has been with for 9 years. As far as i can tell she’s not given him real reason to suspect her. Actually, he says ‘going out with’ rather than partner.. so I assume they don’t even live together.

I think you are right Stav, but also he sounds very controling and he is moaning about things that sound fairly normal.
