Being sensible is not the same as being suspicious and mistrustful though.

A little common sense is of course required.

I guess some people begin relationships with more caution and suspicion, based on their past experiences.

Hopefully a bad experience with someone won’t also ruin your chances with someone who really deserves faith in their character.

I would agree with you on that Stav, of course you can’t start a relationship assuming that someone will cheat, but you should not let your attraction to the other person cause you to forget your common sense and natural caution.

it all comes down to whether you go into a relationship wholeheartedly, willing to accept the person with all their faults, and trust that they are with you becausethey want to be. It seems to me that starting by assuming they WILL cheat on you, means you are doomed from the start.

I guess the elements of that are often condensed to take up very little time.

I also suppose that there are cases of people who are instantly attracted to each other and never look back… I’m not sure I could name any examples of the people that I know.

I know it is very old fashioned now, but the old way of courtship then eventually engagement and marriage made a lot of sense. It meant that people didn’t rush into full on relationships before they knew and trusted the other person.

Speaking of rushing in, I know an extended family member who rushes in, then the relationship crashes and he obsesses with the failed relationship to the point where the police have been called.

I agree, getting to know someone before becoming too involved is a great idea.

I think Heretoday is right up to a point. Anyone who rushes into a full on relationship without knowing the first thing about the other person is a fool. Take some time, get to know the person before investing in the relationship. But once you have chosen your partner there has to be a level of trust.

I think we’ve probably all known someone who’s messed up a good relationship to some extent because they were too suspicious. I think that type of person may be drawn to the above article and may look too hard to find something to stew over.
