I agree that grown children should be able to process and deal with whatever happens in their parent's relationship.

I think the real challenge is for her to commit to making the change.

It's always a bad situation when one partner is financially dependant on the other. That automatically shrinks the options for the one with no money.

I know what it's like to be partially dependant on your partner's income to live comfortably. In that situation, it is not easy to leave.

Liza, that's an interesting way to look at it... but it still does not give most women the independence to move on.

I still think women who depend on their ex-spouses financially have no plans on moving on. If there is a plan, they wouldn't be in this predicament.

Since her children are grown, they should be able to withstand any unpleasantness there may be. Grown ups can do that.

Instead of having conversations with him, she needs to rely on the courts. Otherwise, he will always have the upper hand with her on an emotional level.

If she wants to move on with her life she has to be stronger and more independent. She must be clear that she will still be civil to him for the sake of their grown up children, but she does not want regular contact from him. If he tries to mess her around about the money she will have to go back to court. He is not going to change until she says no and means it.

She wants to move on with her life, but she is not ready, she has automatically become the other woman. Sometimes they(other woman) get better treatment than the girlfriend or the wife.

I think her ex likes it that way too, he's using his money to have the best of both worlds.
