Yes, it is important to keep listening to your head as well as your heart. It can take quite a while for someone to show their true nature, so taking things very steady is very good advice.

Good advice about taking your time at the beginning of any new relationship. I’m not sure it would take a whole year, but six months seems to be reasonable.

And some “not so perfect” people show their true colors long before six months.

I guess “thunder struck” as described by you is due to physical attraction as well.

Physical attraction is very important as if we cannot accept one’s look, we will never be able the person concerned no matter how nice she/he is!

I use “thunder struck” to describe that wave of intense awe that hits people when attraction is immediate and strong.

It become infatuation after the initial wave is over but the obsession is lingering.

It may or may not have a sexual aspect but it certainly messes up their thought processes for a while.

It is just my way of dividing into steps, events that appear to be simultaneous.

I think people confuse “love at first sight” with “lust at first sight”. I had them, and with time I realize that it was more lust than love. Love comes with time. Lust can be an instant thing.

I’m not sure about love at first sight, if you don’t know the person you will only be falling in love with looks or with what you imagine the person to be like. You should take your time to get to know the real person

I believe love at first sight is possible, but I think you should get to know the person as much as possible before you commit. Some people end up marrying psychopaths before they even get to know them.
