Every time I see Silda Spitzer’s face in that video I feel so bad for her. She looks like someone who’s just suffered a mortal injury but hasn’t fallen over yet.

Women who do that do it for different reasons. Chances are they are having extramarital affairs too so it’s really no big deal. As long as the money and status is there they are fine.

Money and status wouldn’t be nearly enough for me to go through a press conference like that. Even if I ultimately decided to stay with that person, I’m afraid they’d have to face the media alone!

At least we have a chance to think about our limits, and the possibilities, before we are faced with a public revelation!
Perhaps Mrs. Spitzer had run this scenario through her mind over the years, and was mentally prepared for the event.

I totally agree that deciding to stay with someone when they cheat is really a personal choice and I give them credit. But I in no way could ever see myself standing beside my cheating husband at a press conference.

It has to be a painful and embarassing experience, even if the woman is doing the same thing. She is a strong one I must say.

Calypso, I do too. I’d surely develop a complex if I found out my hubby has been keeping house with that other woman half her age.
May 5th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
I agree with Calypso’s apt description as well. Not only do I not understand Mrs Spritzer’s attendance at that press conference, I don’t understand Spritzer allowing her that extra humiliation. If he asked her to go, he’s even more of a bastard than I thought he was.

I personally would NOT be doing standing by him, chances are I wouldn’t even be in attendance of the press conference. I have had acquaintances though who would go through anything just to achieve their goals.
May 7th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
Yeah, I think I would have to say, “You got yourself into this alone, now get yourself out alone!”

I don’t know what is really achieved in the public’s eye when the wife decides to stand by the husband.
May 10th, 2008 at 9:37 am
I think in political situations it’s meant to subtly convey that if his wife forgives him and stands by him, surely the public can do the same. Usually press conferences like that are a last-ditch attempt to salvage what’s left of one’s career.

Remember the Kobe Bryant rape case?
He, too, held a news conference. His wife was sitting next to him with this HUGE, new diamond ring on her hand.
Wives married to cheating public figures usually see a pay off that the rest of use wouldn’t have available to us!
LOL

Liza, you could be right about that!
I just can imagine that this is the real reality behind the scenes.
May 11th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Man I just don’t think I could do that even if there was a big payoff but then again I am not in a situation where I am in the public eye.
May 11th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
Calypso, mmmm…. on the other hand, female actresses have no problem leaving their cheating mates to the wolves.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:59 am
SageMother, or…. perhaps maybe this is not the first time he’s been caught cheating on her. Just because this is the first time that he’s been publicly brought to the stands, doesn’t mean that Mrs. Spitzer hasn’t had to put up with this.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
Tater03, I guess they have to show that united front for their constituents.
May 13th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
So true, Diva.
Taking age into account, they have probably had other indiscretions that we have never heard about.
May 14th, 2008 at 10:58 am
Liza, politician wives are not usually cut from the same cloth as us ordinary women. It’s like as if they are stuck back in the medieval times and walking away is not an option.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
mollyL, for all we know, she might have offered to stand by her man.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Liza, I would also make sure that he doesn’t hear the end of it if I decided to stay with him. I am not one of those girls that can just move and forget that he cheated on me.
May 16th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Calypso, LOL! The press will have a field day on that one! Good thing you are not a wife of cheating politican!
May 18th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
Liza, I really do think that they’re constituents expect it and probably hoping for a way for the masses to forgive if the missus does.
May 18th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
Calypso, exactly.
May 18th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
SageMother, well, a big diamond like that really certainly can forgive a multitude of sins.
May 20th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
All I can say is that it would have to be one huge diamond. Or heck, why stop at one? How about three or four huge diamonds, and a new car, and a new…well, you get the idea!
May 21st, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Imaginary Diva…I see your point. I wonder how much they could ever pay me to do that? It’s not worth it?
May 24th, 2008 at 11:30 am
SageMother, if we can only be a fly on the wall in some of these households!
May 24th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
I don’t think a huge diamond would do it for me. I want stock options, royalties, full ownership of one of the vacation homes…..it’s the little things that make live grand.

Calypso, an AMEX card with no monthly spending limit????
June 24th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Liza, LOL!
I still would settle for an AMEX card with no spending limit…..
June 27th, 2008 at 11:08 am
SageMother, LOL!
That would do it for me also.
