I was struck by Sage Mother’s comments about reputation. As far as I am concerned my reputation is my business to protect, not antone else’s. It matters to me that I am honest and truthful etc. but how I conduct my marriage or my friendships is nobody’s business but my own.

It shows how careful you have to be when chosing a partner. You should run a mile from anyone who is too insecure or controlling to accept that you have friends of both sexes.

I agree – Both men and women have the ability to remain friends with members of the opposite sex. Hopefully those people won’t be coupled with someone who sees that as a threat, because it doesn’t have to be.

It is rather insulting to men as well as to women to suggest that they are incapable of any friendship without it leading seduction, betrayal and loss of the woman’s reputation. This article offends me deeply.

Of course married women can have male friends. Being married does not take away a woman’s independence! I have always chosen my own friends and marriage didn’t change that.

A married woman should be free to have whatever friends she wants. Of course some people (male or female) are wiser in their friendships than others, but the majority of people will have friends of the opposite sex without ever thinking of being unfaithful in any way!

I all boils down to priorities.

A married woman can still have male friends, especially since her male friends may be more likely to honor her priorities than some husbands might!

This article is weird and disturbing to say the least.

It’s always interesting to see how the other side thinks. The person who wrote this article is very very serious… possibly another country or culture that we just cannot relate to.

It appears that honor killings are very much a part of his world. Honor and reputation is very important in some parts of the world. The thought process that goes along with this isn’t victorian in nature. Sadly enough, it is still alive and well in many cultures.

Although I think that married women should only have certain male friends,
I can’t identify with most of this article. However, it is beneficial to recognize and understand the reasoning for the mindset.

I believe in maintaining a good reputation but not at the expense of my relationship. It’s not worth it.

Well I am just ‘me’ and I live my life my way, I do’t pay any attention to people who want to tell me what I should or should not do.
